George III Proof Shilling 1787 PR64+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM607.1, S-3746. Plain Edge - Hearts in Shield. A wonderful Proof of the type, cataloged simply as "Extremely Rare" in Spink catalog. Highly original, the surfaces of the present example hold rich cabinet tone throughout, with pleasing iridescent shades in predominately cobalt-blue, blue-green and orange-gold saturation. Magnified inspection yields a reverse that is essentially pristine with a couple couple flyspeck ticks on George's bust on the obverse that preclude full Gem certification. Altogether, a great coin and a rare opportunity.
