LUCANIA. Thurium. Ca. 443-400 BC. AR stater or nomos (21mm, 7.83 gm, 7h). Head of Athena facing right, wearing crested and laureate Attic helmet, and necklace / ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ, bull standing right, head slightly lowered, Δ beneath, tunny fish to left in exergue. SNG ANS 885 (same dies). SNG Lockett 467. A rare early variety! Excellent style and high relief. Toned-over reverse scrapes including one underneath the bull's belly and muzzle.
