MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 17.21 gm, 5h). Late lifetime or early posthumous issue of Pella, ca. 325-315 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion-skin headdress / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; thunderbolt in left field. Price 232. An exceptional piece in fine style struck on a large flan. Lightly toned. NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style. The cataloguer regards the NGC "surface" rating of 3 out of 5 as a likely error, as the surfaces of this beautiful piece appear to be essentially pristine. Ex.
