Isle of Man
British Dependency - Victoria Proof Penny 1859 PR65 Red and Brown NGC, Royal mint, KM14, S-3949, Peck-1520. An extremely rare proof-only striking of this highly coveted young head Victoria issue. A "proof of record", the surfaces remain immaculately preserved with shimmering reflective gleam in the fields. Further, pinpoint detail is illustrated throughout, leaving Victoria's hair curls sharp and the legs in the triskelion in near three-dimensional clarity. A true Gem, magnification finds few flaws with remnant die polish lines (as made) running through the fields. Mellowed red color prompted the Red Brown designation, however limited variances in hue result in a pleasingly even appearance. All considered, much finer than the last example we sold in 2007, and a near certainty to be the finest of the half dozen or less that are likely available for private ownership. An absolute must for the accomplished collector of Isle of Man and likewise, easily at home in great collection of Victorian rarities.
