Jamaica
British Colony "GR" Countermark 3 Shilling 4 Pence ND (1758) F12 NGC, KM8, Prid-5. A Mexico 4 Reales 1739 Mo-MF countermarked with "GR" in center. Base coin Fine, countermark about Very Fine. By far the rarest silver denomination in the "GR" countermarked series of Jamaica, this specimen's desirability is further enhanced by the base coin being an early Philip V issue: in the cataloguer's experience, over 90% of the (very scarce) "GR" Jamaican half dollars are found on Ferdinand VI pieces (struck from 1747 onwards, which is logical since the countermarking operation began in 1758). An extremely rare combination, important for the connoisseur of this charming series.Ex. Ray Brandon collection.

Estimate: 2000-2500 USD
