British Colony "GR" Countermark 6 Shilling 8 Pence ND (1758) XF45 NGC, KM8.2, Prid-4. A Mexico City 1755 Mo-MM 8 Reales centrally stamped on both sides with a floriate "GR" countermark raised within a circular indent. Base coin and countermark Extremely Fine, with very attractive old patina. Well above average for this very popular West Indies countermarked dollar, and certainly worthy of a strong bid. The specialist of this fascinating series will also note that this particular die of the countermark is rarer than the one usually found (respectively labeled as type 2 and 1 in the catalog of the A. Patterson collection.
Estimate: 2000-2500 USD
