Republic Caps and Rays 8 Reales 1866 Ca-JG AU58 PCGS, Chihuahua mint, KM377.2, DP-Ca42 ("Extremely Rare"). About Uncirculated with the slightest friction evidence on the higher points but fully lustrous, well struck and most attractive. A very rare assayer variety for this date, much more so in this select quality. As a side note, Dunigan-Parker note that this "JG" assayer initials variety was overlooked perhaps due to the "G" being very similar to a "C" resulting in the few specimens known to be miscatalogued as the (still rare but definetely less so) "JC" variety. A close examination of this well-preserved specimen shows a quite clear and probably unmistakable "G". A great companion piece to the other two 1866-Ca 8 Reales presented herein, and thus a truly rare opportunity.
