Poland
August II (Friedrich August I of Saxony) silver Coronation Medal 1697 UNC, HCz-2586 (R2), Rcz-269, 41.5mm/43.7gms. By. Christian Wermuth of Gotha. Obv. Cuirassed bust of August facing right. Rev. August II family tree. A superb example of this early medal of Poland, the surface maintaining full detail and exceptional reflectivity with light toning accents. Skillfully engraved, the primary attraction is without question the family tree on the reverse, but the detail in August II's bust should also be celebrated. The first we have seen offered and presumably extremely rare; numerous die cracks on the reverse surfaces that ultimately led to the die's failure could ultimately explain this.

Estimate: 1800-2200 USD
