Carol I silver Proof Piefort Essai 2 Lei 1910 PR66 NGC, Stamb-069-1.2 (Incorrect reference on insert). A truly remarkable offering with exceptional tone in varying pastel shades of teal and blush. This is an extremely alluring specimen with distinct designations that on their own command attention, but altogether demand a premium. Proof, in that the fields display an ample amount of reflectivity beneath the all-over intriguing patina; "Essai", which is located to the right of Carol I to designate a trial for an adopted design; Piefort, which confirms that this planchet is slightly thicker than the regular currency issue of this denomination. At present, there is not a single auction record to indicate that another example comprised of these three elite qualities has been offered. So it must follow, then, that this specimen is incredibly rare and quite possibly unique. From The Collection of Dr. Roger R. McFadden
