The first coinage of South Africa proof set with the two gold issues, one a near-Gem and the other a Gem, having a total mintage of only 655 coins. The silver has uniformly mottled tone with pockets of brilliance, while the coppers all show the mint-applied blackened finish. Accompanied by a highly original red long-box that amazingly still includes the cautionary note from the mint, "Please hold these coins by the milled edge only, as any finger pressure on the polished surface leaves a stain."

Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
