George V 1/2 Penny 1923 AU50 PCGS, Melbourne mint, KM22. Long-collected as a rarity in the Australian series, the 1923 halfpenny's elusive nature is largely due to the fact that the mint actually produced coins dated 1922 well into 1923, resulting in a rather paltry mintage for the 1923-dated issue. The present example is about as pleasing as one will find for a circulated example, the initial striking fully detailing the centers and legends, with circulation thereafter doing little to diminish the strength of the design. Fully original, the surfaces are without large, eye-attracting marks and deep, even brown color prevails. A touch of verdigris is viewed when put beneath a magnifier, but this speaks more to the overall originality than to any detriment. Certain to delight to the Australian specialist. From The Prager Collection Of Australian Coins
