Philippe VI (1328-50) gold Double Royal d'or ND AU50 PCGS, 1st Emission, from 6 April 1340, Fr-267, Duplessy-253. x Ph' : DE : GRA x | x FRAnC : RЄX, King seated in Gothic stall with canopy, holding both long and short scepters / + : XP'C : VIИCIT : XP'C : RЄGИΛT : XP'C : IMPЄRΛT, cross fleurée with crowns in quarters, all within an angled quadrilobe, the angles ending in leaves. A beautifully engraved coin, the obverse slightly double-struck with typical touches of weakness to both sides. In contrast with brightened fields, the design is sharp overall with very little of the peripheral legend veering off-flan. A very rare type.
