Oliver Cromwell 1/2 Crown 1658 MS63 NGC, KM-PnD27, S-3227A, ESC-447. While high grade examples such as the present coin come available from time to time, the eye-appeal of the present piece elevates it to an even higher echelon than the grade suggests. On both sides, rich tone blankets the surfaces with multicolored "electric" hues that highlight much of the devices. Despite this tone, the mirror-like reflectivity in the fields remains unblemished and only serves to amplify the patina. A crisp and detailed strike that leaves the outer denticles sharp and the stippling on Cromwell's bust bold helps to further confirm the appeal. Altogether, a coin that deserves mention as one of the finest known survivors of this long-celebrated "Great Liberator" halfcrown type. From The Law Collection
