Oliver Cromwell Crown 1658/7 MS64 PCGS, S-3226, ESC-10. A simply fantastic example of this issue, engraved by Simon and struck on the screw presses of Pierre Blondeau. It is later die-state, evidenced by the die crack just beginning on this piece to cut across the neck of Cromwell. The tone is reminiscent of an old-collection piece and the fields are nearly prooflike. The stippling on the bust so characteristic of this issue is sharp and raised on all but the highest points with one light spot of cabinet friction to be found on the hair curl over Cromwell's ear. Superb for the issue and certain to elicit spirited bidding amongst Crown connoisseurs.
