George III gold Guinea 1773 MS64 NGC, Royal mint, KM600, S-3727. Tied for the finest graded by NGC, with the highest graded by PCGS being a mere 62. A truly remarkable coin, with only the lightest of haymarking evident. Some light die rust is noted on the bust of George, but it does not detract from the superb eye appeal of this piece. The only other flaw worthy of mention is a small spot of discoloration on the chin of the monarch. The only other piece graded MS64 was sold by Classical Numismatic Group in September, 2014 (CNG 97, lot 1030), where it hammered at $5,400. That piece, while possessing the same technical grade, had a fairly prominent lamination on the forehead of the portrait, as well as more significant die rust, suggesting that the current specimen is the superior of the two.

Estimate: 7500-10000 USD
