George III gold Proof Guinea 1774 PR63 Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM-604, S-3728, WR-95. A marvelous example of this highly demanded Proof issue that was struck during the first year of issuance of this 4th laureate bust style. More attractive than most, one is immediately drawn to the cameo contrast on the surfaces that sets George's elegantly designed bust in vivid contrast to the impressively mirrored fields. Light tone adds further appeal, with much of the color remaining at the edges with traces of patina also joining the reverse centers. Light handling in the field to the right George's bust limits the numeric grade, but the connoisseur should certainly appreciate the early die state of this piece that lacks the typically encountered large reverse die flaw.
