George III gold 1/2 Sovereign 1818 MS66 PCGS, Royal mint, KM673, S-3786. Ex Terner Collection. The single finest graded by either PCGS or NGC, making this is a true conditional rarity. There are absolutely no flaws worthy of mentioning. This coin has been off the open market since it sold in the Terner Collection in Goldberg's 25 (31 May 2004), lot 1239, where it hammered at a mere $1,900. With the way the market has progressed in the interim decade, it is hard to provide an accurate estimate for a gem piece such as this. As an illustration of just how the market has changed, the last near-comparable example to this that Heritage has sold was in our January, 2006 NYINC auction (Heritage 397, lot 13614). Despite being less than two years after the Terner specimen sold, that example, graded MS65 by PCGS, hammered at $3,000. We have estimated the present piece conservatively, and leave it up to the market to decide what it is truly worth.
Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
