George IV gold Sovereign 1825 MS62 PCGS, Royal mint, KM682, S-3800. The key date and type for George IV sovereigns. According to the price data in the Standard Catalog of British Coins, the 1825 commands a significant premium over most other dates of George IV sovereigns. Though the mintage figure for 1825 sovereigns is a reported 4,200,343, there is unfortunately no differentiation between the first type (St. George slaying the dragon) and the second type (shield reverse). Based on market appearances, however, it is clear that this the first type is by far the rarer one. The last mint-state example that Heritage has offered was a PCGS MS63, sold in September, 2011, for a total price of $12,650, suggesting both the rarity and value of this type. From The Law Collection
