Victoria gold Proof Sovereign 1871 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM752, S-3856, WR-319 (R7). Plain Edge - Large "B.P." - Medal Rotation. An extremely rare proof variety of this seldom-seen proof date with English Pattern Trial and Proof Coin in Gold estimating that only 1 or 2 examples exist. While several more examples have proven extant since its publishing, likely survivors still only amount to 4 or 5. Struck from the same obverse die as WR-318 (Grained Edge - Small "B.P." - Coin Rotation) with a re-cut and raised "W.W." on Victoria's neck truncation, while the reverse shares characteristics with WR-317 (Grained Edge - Large "B.P." - Coin Rotation). The plain edge and medal axis orientation however fully sets the present type apart. Expertly produced, the fields showcase a high degree of reflectivity with traces of linear die polish lines (as made) coming into view when inspected with a loupe. In contrast with the fields, the central motifs are highly satiny; a most-desirable effect on these early proofs! Light tone, mostly confined to the edges, adds a touch of uniqueness and what little handling there is, is grade-appropriately and non-distracting. A great coin overall and hands down one of the most coveted Victorian proof sovereigns!

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
