Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1817 NG-M MS63 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM71, Onza-1209. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated with superbly lustrous and reflective surfaces with the expected handling marks for the designation. The coin was softly struck at the centers and has evident adjustment marks mainly visible on the reverse. This is undoubtedly unfortunate for the eye-appeal but could well be the reason this brilliant example was kept from circulation in the first place. All gold issues struck at either of the Guatemalan Colonial mints are at least very scarce, due to their low mintage figures. The 8 Escudos issued under Ferdinand VII are no exception and were issued in only three years: 1808, 1811 (both struck in 1811 and both extremely rare) and 1817. While representing the only available date of the type, coins dated 1817 are rarely seen in grades approaching Mint State. Choice specimens such as the present coin must be considered extremely rare and as such, this engaging example is bound to attract sustained bidding activity. Currently the single finest certified example by NGC.From The Santa Maria Collection
