Baroda. Sayaji Rao III silver Pattern Rupee VS1946 (1889) MS63 NGC, KM-Unlisted, stylistically similar to KM-Y36. Plain edge. 11.28gms. An extremely rare pattern issue, and the precursor the to the first rupee of the King, with the date proceeding that of the circulating type by a full 2 years. While the obverse closely resembles that of the adopted design with a rightward facing Sayaji Rao, the reverse varies rather noticeably, with the floral circle on the pattern design later becoming a wreath and the central design absent a scimitar. Obviously paired with a conscientious custodian for ages, the surfaces show little in the way of handling with a hint of light yellowish tone atop otherwise silvery surfaces. For accuracy's sake, a minute edge tick near 12 o'clock is noted, but considering this rupee's near-unique status, the imperfection isn't at all worrisome. Obviously, a coin that deserves exaltation as a great rarity of this princely state; for the specialist in such an area, a coin that carries with it unsurpassable allure!
