Ercole I d'Este (1471-1505) gold Ducato ND MS62 NGC, Fr-265, Biaggi-766, CNI X-14, MIR-250/1. + • HERCVLES • DVX • FERRARIAE •, armored bust left / • | SVREXIT • XPS • REX • GŁE •, Christ, rising from sepulchre, a banner in his left hand, his right hand raised in benediction, a small cross below. A sharply struck example on a generous flan, the entire module is visible on both sides. The legends bear some minor encrustation, but the remaining surfaces are softly lustrous and exhibit lovely tone. Overall, an original and appealing specimen with a splendid portrait of Ercole, one of the most significant patrons of the arts in Renaissance Italy.From The Alexander Collection
