Kingdom of Napoleon. Napoleon gold 40 Lire 1812-M MS66 NGC, Milan mint, KM12. While this type remains generally available in About Uncirculated grades, it's scarcity is amplified significantly at the Uncirculated tier, with population report data showing considerable declines in the number of Mint State examples certified. At the Gem level, this trend only continues, with examples certified as such being true condition rarities. The present premium Gem deserves an even higher elevation, as it, along with one other example of the same date at PCGS, are the only two examples from the entire type to have been graded MS66. Close inspection of the present piece confirms this elite designation, with surfaces that highlight impressive satin-textured fields, and a bold strike that admirably translates all the design's intended detail. Amazingly, Napoleon's portrait, almost always a magnet for distracting marks, borders on pristine. An undeniable "wonder-coin" and for the dedicated collector of Napoleonic coinage, or elite world gold, a coin that shouldn't be overlooked. From The Alexander Collection
