Vittorio Emanuele II gold 100 Lire 1872-R MS62 PCGS, Rome mint, KM19.2. Mintage: 661. An absolutely astounding example of this Empire-period rarity with surfaces that, likely the result of long-term cabinet storage, are now bathed in a vivid mixture of alluring fiery-copper, orange, maroon and green hues. Beneath the tone sits semi-reflective fields that only serve to embellish the sharply rendered design. Light and even handling defines the grade, but overall it detracts minimally from the appearance. Currently tied with only one other example as the finest certified at PCGS with no rivals at NGC. A monumental opportunity thus! From The Alexander Collection
