Alexander I Poltina (1/2 Rouble) 1803 СПБ-AИ MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bitkin-H45 (R2), KM-C123. Obv. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle in circle with date and value around. Rev. Crowned four-line-inscription in wreath. An amazing example! We feel that NGC may have missed the mark on this one. It appears to us to be the Novodel striking. The strike is superb, with fully mirrored fields. Close examination reveals heavy die polishing lines, and small raised bumps as one sees on coins struck from an older, somewhat rusty die. The overall appearance is spectacular, nearly the look of a Proof strike. Close inspection is suggested.
