Nicholas I Poltina (1/2 Rouble) 1831 CПБ-HГ PR63 Cameo NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bitkin-120, KM-C160, shield touches crown variety. Obv. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with date and value around. Rev. Crowned four-line-inscription in wreath. The strike is near-perfect and the surfaces exhibit quite a few small contact marks. The fields are fully mirrored and contrast sharply against the frosted devices. An extremely rare issue in Proof and the first example we have seen. The fabulous "Falz-Fein" Collection sold in Zurich (so far in three parts, with more to come), presented the 1826 and 1827 of this type in Proof, but not the 1831. At the very least, this Proof example is a great rarity and a unique opportunity for the Russian specialist.
