MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-3233 BC). AR tetradrachm (17.23 gm). Posthumous issue of Amphipolis, ca. 318-317 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion-skin headdress / Zeus seated left, holding scepter and eagle; crescent facing to right (!) in left field; below throne, Π below struts. Cf. Price 123 (crescent facing left). Attractive iridescent cabinet toning. Scratch on cheek, otherwise Nearly Extremely Fine. The crescent to the left of Zeus seems always to have the "horns" pointing left in all published versions; here they are pointed to right.
