Ancients
Maurice Tiberius (AD 582-602). AV solidus (4.46 gm). Constantinople, 7th officina. Diademed and cuirassed bust facing, wearing plumed helmet, holding globus cruciger in right hand / Angel standing facing holding staurogram in right hand and globus cruciger in left, star or pellet in right field, Z//CONOB. Cf. Sear 478 (obverse) and 481 (lightweight solidus, reverse). DOC --. MIB --. Apparently an unrecorded mule of Sear types 478/481! Reverse die a tad degraded, otherwise well struck and lustrous, particularly on obverse. NGC MS 4/5 - 5/5. There is clearly a mint mark of some type, either a star or pellet, in the right reverse field; however, the only reverse matching this description is Sear 481 / DOC 7, which is a lightweight solidus of 23 siliquae also indicated by a star in the obverse right field. Since this is a full-weight solidus, it is probably an accidental mule pairing a regular solidus obverse with a lightweight solidus reverse.

Estimate: 1000-1400 USD
