British Colony 6 Bits (4 shillings 6 Pence) ND (1813) Fine, KM6, Prid-27. Base coin Good twice plugged, countermark Fine. A circular center segment from a Charles IIII Spanish Colonial 8 Reales, countermarked (per decree of the local authorities of August 21, 1813) with a crowned "6" raised within a shaped indent. The weight of this specimen at 8.58 grams is correct for a worn piece (the official weight was 139 grains or 9 grams). A classic very scarce West Indies issue. The countermark is from the same dies as one of the examples from the Roehrs collection (DNW 9/2010, lot 207).
