Ecuador
War of Independence 2 Reales 1822 P-O XF45 NGC, Pasto mint, KM74, Restrepo-115.1. Attractive for the designation with handsome toning and great overall appearance for this normally very crude type. Struck near Pasto by the Royalist forces with equipment taken from the Popayan mint (hence the "P" mintmark, while "O" stands for assayer Vicente Olave). A one-year type, the only Spanish Colonial coin referencing the constitution imposed on Ferdinand VII on 1820 and also traditionally considered the first struck issued in Ecuador, this historical and legitimately scarce issue is marred by the low grade and crudeness exhibited by the great majority of the surviving examples. The present example is one of 4 appealing examples seen by the cataloguer. By far the finest certified of the type, certainly rare and most desirable in this quality.

Estimate: 600-800 USD
