Ecuador
Republic 8 Reales 1846-GJ XF Smoothed - Cleaned, Quito mint, KM32. An affordable example of this rare and iconic one-year type. Save for rumours of an 1841-MV 8 Reales (a line drawing of which was included in such early works as Bonneville's 1849 Histoire Monetaire and Medina's 1891 Monedas y Medallas Hispanoamericanas), the 1846 is the first confirmed crown issued by Ecuador and the only one issued under the old Spanish monetary standard. As a rare one year type with only 1,386 pieces struck, it always commands high attention and correspondingly high prices. Here is a chance to own a reasonably priced specimen.
Estimate: 700-900 USD
