Philippe VI (1328-50) gold Écu d'or à la chaise ND MS62 NGC, 2nd Emission, from 10 April 1343, Fr-270, Duplessy-249A. + PhILIPPVS : DЄI | x GRA x | FRAnCORVM : RЄX, King seated on Gothic throne, a sword in his right hand and his left supporting a shield / + XP'C : VIИCIT : XP'C : RЄGИAT : XP'C : INPЄRAT, cross fleurée with voided quatrefoil in center and at the ends of the limbs, leaves in angles; all within a quadrilobe with trefoils in spandrels. A lustrous and very attractive example, well-centered on a generous flan, with hints of weakness found primarily in the high points of the reverse trefoils and a few letters in the legend. The surfaces bear velvety luster and the slight double-strike to the obverse is not especially visually distracting.

Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
