William I the Conqueror (1066-87) Penny c.1083-86 AU50 NGC, Dorchester mint, Oter as moneyer, PAXS type, S-1257, North-848. Obv. + PILLELM REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, holding scepter to right. Rev. + OTER ON DORCEST, cross pattée; letters PAXS contained within annulets in each quarter. A handsomely-toned example with sharp centers and typical peripheral weakness. Dorchester is a very scarce mint for this issue.
