Charles III 8 Reales 1770 G-P VF25 NGC, Guatemala mint, KM27.2. A rather wholesome specimen of the small size subtype struck at the Guatemala Colonial mint, with only "honest" wear and problem-free surfaces and a decent strike over a crude flan (as usual). Starting in 1769, the Guatemala mint began to strike the 8 Reales coins on reduced size planchets due to a deteriorating minting press. This subtype was struck until 1771 and is usually found in worn and/or damaged condition, making the present coin a quite decent example of the issue. From The Santa Maria Collection
