Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1811/09 Mo-HJ/T(H) AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM110, Onza-1255. A lustrous specimen of this imaginary bust type, with only limited wear on the high points of the design and limited handling marks. Struck from the same pair of dies as the Onza plate coin, thus clearly the 1811/09 overdate variety although not indicated as such in the slab. Note that the TJ pair of assayer initials should not exist since Tomas Butron and Jose David Madrid did not work simultaneously as 1st and 2nd assayers of the Mexico City mint. Thus the reverse die used to strike the present coin was probably a left over die with the TH initials (for Tomas Butron and Henrique Buenaventura, cf. the Onza-1251 coin, an 1808 Mo-TH 8 Escudos) from the previous year. Scarce and desirable in this quality.

Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
