RYUKYUS:LOT of 5 coins of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Sho-Hashi 1429-1439, AE mon tai sei tsu ho (1), Sho-Toku 1461-1469, AE mon sei ko tsu ho (2), Sho-En 1470-1476, AE mon kin en sei ho (2), average circulated condition, retail value $400, lot of 5 coins. The kingdom was tributary to the Ming emperors until 1609, then it was annexed by the Lord of Shimazu (today Kagoshima) by order of the Shogun, although the Kingdom still paid tribute to the Qing dynasty until 1872. The Meiji Japanese government abolished the Ryukyu Kingdom when the islands were incorporated as the Okinawa Prefecture in 1879.
