TULUNID: Khumarawayh, 884-896, AV dinar (3.95g), al-Rafiqa, AH278, A-664, citing the caliph al-Mu'tamid and the caliphal heir al-Mufawwidh, VF, RR. Coarse calligraphy, as is typical of dinars of al-Rafiqa of the late 270s. The mint name on this piece resembles the nearby town of al-Raqqa rather than al-Rafiqa, as the alif is omitted. Tulunid dinars of al-Rafiqa circa AH273-280 were struck from poorly engraved dies, presumably locally engraved, whereas contemporary dinars from other Tulunid mints are much more carefully engraved.
