FATIMID: al-Mustansir, 1036-1094, AR dirham (1.20g), NM, ND, A-723, Nicol-, obverse legend la ilah illa Allah / al-imam abu tamim / ma'add al-mustansir / billah amir al-mu'minin, with part of a short word or floral ornament below (unclear), reverse legend la ilah illa Allah / muhammad rasul / Allah / 'ali wali Allah, border of pellets around both sides, VF, RRR. Unpublished, and unlike any type catalogued by Nicol. The calligraphic style suggests a Maghrib origin, and it was found together with a small group of silver coins of the Murabitun (Almoravids), mostly in the name of Yusuf b. Tashufin, who began effective Almoravid ruler in AH453, but did not strike coinage in his own name until after the death of Abu Bakr in 480.
