SASANIAN KINGDOM: Khusro II, 591-628, AR drachm (4.19g), SK (Sijistan), year 4, G-209var, unusual local design, carelessly engraved regnal year, EF to About Unc. The style is totally different from regular issues of this mint & ruler, and there appears to have been something engraved in the second quadrant of the obverse margin, later erased by the engraver, hence the raised area where the text might have been. It was likely issued in the 2nd half of the 7th century or even slightly later. This is only the 2nd example we have heard of, same obverse, but difference reverse die from the specimen that sold in our Auction 18, Lot 51, hammered at $520.
Estimate: 300- 400 USD
