PHRYGIA. Dorylaion? Ae (3rd-2nd centuries BC).

Obv: Helmeted head of Athena right.
Rev: ΔΟΡΙ.
Owl right, head facing; spearhead to right.

Pecunem 14, lot 360; Winterthur 4088 (as Dorylaion); Imhoof-Blumer, Kleinasiatische Münzen, 525, 1 (as Dorylaion); Aulock, Phrygien II, 63 (as Hierapolis).

The attribution of the type to Dorylaion is based upon Imhoof-Blumer's reading of the ethnic as ΔΟΡΥ. In his comment, he states that the last two letters are just partially preserved. The ethnic of the present specimen can be read ΔΟΡI with certainty. Therefore, the attribution to Dorylaion is absolutely questionable.

Condition: Good fine.

Weight: 1.29 g.
Diameter: 11 mm.
