Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Medallion (Core) (33mm, 50.08 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck AD 189/90-190/1. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Commodus, in military attire, standing right, holding [parazonium] and spear; before him, Africa reclining left, holding grain ears and petting a lion; above her, Victory standing right, placing a shield on a trophy; [COS VI] in exergue. Gnecchi II 52.5 (pl. 78, no. 5); MIR 18, 1148-1/37; Banti 30; Cohen 69. Fine, brown patina with touches of green. Most likely the central core of a bimetallic medallion.
