Sicily, Gela. Silver Tetradrachm (16.5 g), ca. 450-440 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath; in exergue, palmette with tendrils. Reverse: C, forepart of man-headed bull left. Jenkins grp. IV, dies O68/R146 (die combination not recorded); SNG ANS -; SNG Lloyd -. An absolutely incredible portrait on the man-headed bull with outstanding detail. Well struck on a wide flan. A stunning specimen. Extremely Fine. A hitherto unknown combination of these particular dies, both are in Jenkins group IV. Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000
