Maya Polychrome Jar. A fine Maya glyph jar from El Salvador, ca. 400 â 700 AD. This lovely polychrome vessel is 4-3/8" in diameter and is decorated with two registers of glyphic symbols. The upper band consists of step-fret and spiral designs, with vertical orange stripes echoed on the interior, while the cartouches on the lower half of the chamber are painted against a black background, denoting an Underworld motif. Intact, with strong mineral deposits and root marks. Ex Tribal Treasures Gallery.
