TROAS, Alexandria Troas. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ As (23mm, 8.27 g, 7h). Struck AD 214-215. M AVRE ANTONEINOS, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / COL AL AVG, Caracalla standing left, holding spear and sacrificing from patera over a lighted altar set before a cult statue of Apollo Smintheus, with patera and bow, facing right on base; between, eagle flying right, carrying head of bull in talons. Cf. Bellinger A271 (rev. Type 10); cf. BMC 93; cf. Lindgren III 302; cf. Mabbott 1361; unpublished in the standard references with this rev. legend and types. Near VF, green patina, some minor roughness. Very rare.
