ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Æthelred II. 978-1016. AR Penny (20mm, 1.93 g). Scandinavian imitation. Long Cross type (BMC IVa, Hild. D). Crude draped bust left; pseudo-legend around / Voided long cross with pellet in center and triple crescent ends; pseudo-legend around. Cf. Malmer 932 (p. 427) for a similar imitation; cf. North 774 & SCBC 1151 for prototype. Near VF, toned, pecks and minor marks, patches of encrustation. An unusually crude imitation.
