Celtic coins were minted by the Celts from the late 4th century BC to the late 1st century BC. They were influenced by trade with and the supply of mercenaries to the Greeks. Like this one, they first retained Greek subjects, such as the head of Apollo on obverse and two-horse chariot on reverse of Macedonian gold staters, but created their own style from that basis, allowing for the development of an amazing and wonderful Graeco-Celtic synthesis.
