The types of the Corinthian coinage derived from the myth of Bellerophon. Athena appeared to the hero in a dream and gave him the golden bridle with which he tamed Pegasos on the Acrocorinth, and then flew off to slay the Chimaera. Thus Athena was worshipped at Corinth as Athena Chalinitis (the Bridler).
