Newell has suggested the laurel wreath border could have a large significance, alluding to Demetrios' victory just outside the Antioch' walls and to the worship's restoration of Apollo - the traditional patron of the Seleucids - on coinage. Demetrios is infamous in Jewish history for his victory over the Maccabees. He acquired his surname of Soter (Savior) from the Babylonians, whom he delivered from the tyranny of the Median satrap, Timarchos.
