MONOGRAPHS. Hale, William Harlan. The Horizon Book of Ancient Greece. New York 1965. 4to (23.5x31cm), hardbound illustrated black cloth with gilt letters as issued; black imitation leather slip case with illustration affixed to front; 415 pages, colour and black & white photos throughout, map. Spine faded otherwise Near Fine.
A note from BCD: A large size coffee-table book that has some striking colour photographs of what is best known from the finest remains of Ancient Greece. This writer is particularly attracted by a stunning full-page frontal photograph of the Charioteer's head from the well-known Delphi museum bronze statue. Ancient Greek coin enlargements from Boston, The British Museum, Naples and the Chania museum on Crete are entered as auxiliary images; what prevails is the impressive and artful photography of artifacts and temples.
Estimation: € 20
