Hong Kong Government of Hong Kong $1 on 1000 Yen ND (1945) Pick 318. This note is from the period immediately following Japan's surrender in Hong Kong in August 1945. The newly reorganized government in Hong Kong thought it best to overprint a stock of partially completed Japanese notes, adding in the denomination and 'Hong Kong Government'. Prior to the completion of this process, however, a British shipment arrived with a new series of notes for Hong Kong. Thus, these overprinted notes were never released into circulation.
